Pernahkan anda sebagai orang Sumatera Selatan (selanjutnya disebut SUMSEL), bertanya mengapa Orang SUMSEL, tidak menonjol di Indonesia, atau dengan kata lain mengapa kiprah orang SUMSEL tidak / kurang terlihat, padahal bila merujuk pada kerajaan Sriwijaya yang besar dan luas jangkauan kekuasaannya, (Kemaharajaan Sriwijaya bercirikan kerajaan maritim, mengandalkan hegemoni pada kekuatan armada lautnya dalam menguasai alur pelayaran, jalur perdagangan, menguasai dan membangun beberapa kawasan strategis sebagai pangkalan armadanya dalam mengawasi, melindungi kapal-kapal dagang, memungut cukai serta untuk menjaga wilayah kedaulatan dan kekuasaanya). Seharusnya orang-orang SUMSEL saat ini menonjol di Indonseia, terutama dibidang Kelauatan. Apa yang salah?,

Mari coba kita, telaah secara sederhana. Ternyata hingga kini di SUMSEL tidak ditemukan sosial budaya peninggalan orang / kerajaan Sriwijaya. Apa karena sudah terlalu lama jaraknya sekitar abad ke 6, setelah kejatuhannya kerajaan Sriwijaya sempat terlupakan hingga tahun 1918 itupun melalui sejarawan Francis bernama George Coedes, Nama Kerajaan Sriwijaya mulai dikenal kembali. Satu-satunya yang menjadi peninggalan kerajaan Sriwijaya hingga kini adalah bahasa Melayu Kuno yang kini menjadi cikal bakal bahasa Indonesia moderen. Nah yang satu inipun publikasinya kurang sekali sehingga orang meyakini bahasa Melayu itu dari KEPRI atau Melayu Kepulauan Riau bukan dari SUMSEL. Mulai sekarang anda harus percaya Melayu itu di Mulai Dari Kerajaan Sriwijaya.

Semetara peninggalan yang lainnya, yang hingga kini masih adapun tak bisa tetap dilaksanakan oleh orang-orang SUMSEL karena bukan berupa ritual, adat, budaya, tapi berupa batu tulis atau prasasti. Masa keemasannya pernah memiliki sebuah pusat pembelajaran agama Budha terbesar, termasuk sejenis universitas namun sayang kini tanda-tandanyapun tak ada lagi, mayoritas penduduk SUMSEL kini beragama Islam. dengan kata lain Kerjaaan Sriwijaya telah gagal membangun sosial budaya yang mengakar lagi kuat.

Orang-orang SUMSEL bukanlah tipe kreatif yang skalanya nasional apalagi dunia, banyak orang pintar, cerdas dan kreatif dari SUMSEL tapi masih untuk ruang lingkup kecil atau individu, sehingga jarang kita temukan karya-karya dibidang seni, suara, musik, inovasi, pertanian, dan lainnya hasil orang SUMSEL kalaupun ada jumlahnya masih bisa dihitung dengan jari.

Orang SUMSEL juga bukanlah tipe orang gigih, ulet yang mau memperjuangkan apa yang dinginkannya, sampai darah penghabisan (dalam hal postif), sehingga SUMSEL belum menjadi barometer di Indonesia, simak berapa banyak orang SUMSEL asli yang menjadi Kapolda, Pangdam, Pimpinan Pertamina, PUSRI maupun yang lainnya, jangan-jangan pemain bola Sriwijaya FC lebih banyak dari orang luar SUMSEL.. Palembang bukanlah tujuan investasi, bukan pula tujuan promosi, pameran, jajak pendapat, atau tempat-tempat pencarian bakat, seperti Indonesia Idol misalnya.

Orang Sumsel bukan tipe pencipta kerja / usaha, orang SUMSEL adalah bertipe pencari kerja, dan kerja yang dicaripun masih pilih. Bagi orang SUMSL umumnya kerja itu ya; Pertamina, PUSRI, Bank, Pabrik lainnya. Sungguh jarang kita temukan selain di Palembang (SUMSEL lainnya) orang kita membuka bengkel, jualan; sate, bakso, mie, gorengan dan sebagainya, karena jenis ini sepertinya belumlah dipandang oleh orang SUMSEL. Orang SUMSEL kalo membuka usaha inginnya cepat berhasil dan cepat maju serta beruntung.

Mungkin anda sebagai orang SUMSEL masih punya catatan lainnya,,,atau mungkin bisa menambahkan, catatan saya ini bukanlah hasil penelitian dan survey yang mendalam sehingga belum bisa menjadi ukuran dan atau belum bisa dipertangungjawabkan, namun saya yakin bisa menambah wawsana kita serta daat menjadi renungan.
